Call for Applications: The Partnership on AI Fellowship Program
Call for Applications: The Partnership on AI Fellowship Program
Back in November, we announced the launch of the Partnership on AI (PAI) Labs: a Partnership-led AI policy and ethics research initiative designed to deliver on ambitious projects conceived by PAI Working Groups, Partner organizations, and researchers and experts on our staff. Beginning this year, PAI Labs will grow and begin to conduct multi-disciplinary work for the benefit of the extended AI community.
In an effort to support this work, and to converge multidisciplinary thinkers around solving some of the toughest questions facing AI and society, we are launching the PAI Fellowship Program. Today, we call upon researchers at our member organizations and across the wider research community to join us for a residential fellowship based at the Partnership on AI’s headquarters in San Francisco, California. PAI Research Fellows will design and execute projects which build on the work of the AI research community while leveraging the unique benefits of the extended PAI network.
From its founding, the Partnership on AI has been an organization dedicated to bridging gaps between disciplines and sectors, and providing opportunities for meaningful engagements between experts – including those representing affected communities – whose voices are necessary to support the study and reflection of AI and its impacts on people and society. Importantly, the Partnership on AI is also a community focused on practice: we work actively with our 80+ Partner organizations to create meaningful, evidence-based change in the behaviors, technologies, understandings, and policies that govern the way that AI research and deployment are happening around the globe. The PAI Fellowship Program will be focused on delivering research work to support these areas of our mission.
Fellows can represent expertise in any discipline and will be selected on the basis of demonstrated interest in and capacity for executing impactful research or policy work at the intersection of AI and society. They will be invited to propose multidisciplinary projects that align with PAI’s mission and work, or may choose to tackle and co-design in further detail a project that has already been identified by the PAI community for its potential impact. PAI Fellows will be situated within PAI’s Research Team, but have the option to conduct work across the organization, including in collaborating directly with Partner organizations and in matters related to policy or communications, and public engagement and education.
PAI Research Fellows will be based in PAI’s San Francisco offices with financial support available for Fellows from nonprofit civil society, advocacy, and academic research institutions. Duration of the fellowship program will range from six months to two years, depending on the specific circumstances of each candidate. Current fellowship openings can be found on our Careers Page.
We look forward to hearing from you!
