Overview
This September, global leaders return to New York for the United Nations General Assembly at a pivotal moment for AI governance. As governments weigh different approaches to international cooperation and approaches to governance, Partnership on AI is hosting an intimate roundtable on the margins of UNGA.
Building on the roundtable PAI convened in Geneva, we will convene a small group of experts and senior leaders from industry, government, civil society, and academia during UNGA week, with two aims:
1. Preparation for the UN Dialogue and AI Summit in 2027: we’ll take stock of AI advances and global governance developments, surface key tensions and opportunities, and narrow down a set list of shared priorities for action across stakeholder groups in 2027.
2. Workshop a practical tool on measuring progress on AI Summit commitments, to be launched in 2027 ahead of the Geneva AI Summit.
- In collaboration with Elham Tabassi (Brookings), we’re building a public-facing tool to track progress on AI Summit commitments — what’s working, where the field is falling short, and what’s blocking progress.
- Together, we’ll walk through the tool’s methodology and quality index, explore how to build it interactively, and close with a discussion on launch and adoption strategy.
