Responsibly Navigating the Enterprise AI Landscape

While AI adoption has accelerated, enterprises have been left with limited guidance on how to implement AI responsibly – particularly when it comes to its impact on employees, users, and customers. Taking the time to get it right isn’t just good ethics; it’s good business, with returns that range from positive societal outcomes to a lasting competitive edge.

How organizations choose to use AI plays a critical role in shaping its real-world impact on individuals and communities. Thoughtful efforts to mitigate risks and harms during adoption and use ripple outward, helping build a world where the benefits of AI are more equitably shared.

To better understand the guidance enterprises need for responsible AI adoption, Partnership on AI hosted two workshops with the support of Salesforce. The workshops brought together over 20 organizations, including businesses, model providers, civil society organizations, and academic institutions. Our latest report, Responsibly Navigating the Enterprise AI Landscape, details the challenges and opportunities identified during these workshops.

From those workshops, participants identified three critical challenge areas that enterprises face when adopting AI responsibly:

• Responsible AI Adoption Readiness
• Evaluation, Monitoring, and Compliance
• Trust and Collaboration Across the AI Value Chain

In response to these challenges, workshop participants identified key areas where future research and collaboration could better support the responsible adoption of AI across enterprises.

• Knowledge and Terminology Alignment
• Governance Structures
• Adoption and Implementation Guidelines
• Measurement and Monitoring Frameworks
