Call on International AI Community and Policymakers to Ensure Privacy Rights Are Preserved and Protected

PAI’s mission to advance positive outcomes for people and society with AI is not achievable without a foundational commitment to the privacy of people and communities.

With recent events globally, I am deeply concerned that AI technologies, combined with the collection and consolidation of data, have reached an unprecedented potential to be deployed or brokered by public and private actors to increasingly violate rights and freedoms, whether in public spaces or workplaces.

I am calling on the international AI community and policymakers to ensure that business practices preserve and protect individual and collective privacy rights. This includes minimizing the collection, selling and consolidation of personal data.

Without this, our work to fulfill the promise of AI technologies to support human flourishing will not be possible. The promise of AI to benefit humanity and the planet depends on all of us.
