Partnership on AI Appoints New Board Leadership from BBC R&D, Capital One, and the Nonprofit Sector
Partnership on AI has appointed new leadership to its Board, a body of trusted advisors supporting PAI’s mission of convening stakeholders from across sectors to shape the global AI landscape in ways that serve the public interest.
Jatin Aythora, Director of BBC Research & Development, has been appointed as Board Chair. He takes over the position from Jerremy Holland, Director of AI Research at Apple, whose service term has concluded and who now steps into the role of Chair Emeritus. Premkumar Natarajan, Ph.D., EVP, Chief Scientist and Head of Enterprise AI at Capital One, and Nicol Turner Lee, AI expert, author, and Founder of the AI Equity Lab, have been appointed Vice-Chairs.
“This year PAI celebrates its 10th anniversary–and our work is more urgent than ever. With the widening use and impact of AI in society, it is only fitting that our new Board chair and vice chairs are leaders in media, financial services and research. I look forward to continuing our work with Jatin, Prem, and Nicol who each bring a rich perspective on what it takes to build a future where AI is developed with equity, humanity, and shared prosperity,” said Rebecca Finlay, CEO at Partnership on AI.
“As we enter this new era of AI at scale, the leadership required to steer its path must be as global and multifaceted as the technology itself. I am honored to lead the Partnership on AI at this critical juncture. Our mission is to move beyond fragmented approaches and foster a cohesive framework where AI advancement is synonymous with ethical integrity. By bringing together the world’s most influential voices across industry and civil society, we will ensure that AI serves as a powerful catalyst for shared prosperity and progress on a global scale,” said Jatin Aythora, Director, BBC Research & Development and PAI Board Chair.
The PAI Board is an essential group of leaders providing strategic guidance to the organization as it drives impact through partnership. For nearly a decade, PAI has engaged with stakeholders from across sectors and industries—from academia, civil society, industry, philanthropy, and policy—in collaborative, solutions-oriented dialogue. With its Partner community, PAI drives the development of actionable recommendations and practical guidelines to steer AI innovations to serve the needs of people and society.
“As AI becomes increasingly woven into the fabric of our lives, the work and mission of the Partnership on AI has never been more important. Working across a wide spectrum of multisector stakeholders shaping the future of AI, the Partnership is uniquely positioned to help guide institutions toward a world where AI is developed and deployed for positive societal benefit. I am delighted and honored to help steward these efforts alongside the PAI Board and our partners,” said Prem Natarajan, Ph.D., EVP, Chief Scientist and Head of Enterprise AI, Capital One and PAI Board Vice-Chair.
“PAI is bringing humanity back to the table in thinking about how AI’s transformative capabilities can achieve the public good. I am thrilled to be part of an organization that recognizes the importance of inclusive design and deployment to achieve more purposeful and equitable AI models and applications,” said Nicol Turner Lee, founder of the AI Equity Lab and author of Digitally Invisible: How the Internet is Creating the New Underclass that explores opportunities for more democratized technologies.
