Partnership on AI Launches SAIGE Council, New Expert Advisory Body to Support PAI’s Excellence and Independence
Today, Partnership on AI, a nonprofit community of academic, civil society, and industry organizations addressing the most difficult questions on the future of AI, announced the launch of its inaugural SAIGE Council, a standing advisory body of highly respected, interdisciplinary researchers and subject-matter experts from around the world. The Council will act as an internal advisor, ensuring PAI’s work meets the highest standards of independence and rigor while remaining attentive to external and emerging trends.
“The establishment of this new advisory council is fundamental to my commitment that PAI’s guidance be of the highest quality and independence,” said Rebecca Finlay, CEO at Partnership on AI. “I am truly grateful that this inaugural group of internationally distinguished leaders have agreed to give their time, wisdom, and creativity to support PAI’s vision of a future where people are empowered by AI to advance equity and shared prosperity.”

In May, PAI hosted a meeting in Chicago that brought together 22 international experts to identify under studied areas in AI research and provide advice on the proposed structure and mandate of the SAIGE Council. Some of the topics that emerged from that meeting include the following:
- AI’s impact on human cognitive development and social behavior
- Interdisciplinary governance frameworks that prioritize human wellbeing
- Environmental impact assessment tools for AI development and deployment
- Labor market research tracking displacement, adaption, and new role creation
- Cross-cultural studies on AI’s impacts on societies and power structures globally
- The impact of integrating AI in learning and educational environments
These topics will inform the Council’s focus on identifying key questions, areas for further research, or actions that need to be taken to support socially beneficial outcomes across five categories: agentic AI; human-AI interaction; environmental impact; democracy and connection; and labor. The international composition of the Council is still in development with a few additional positions to be added in the coming months.
